Whether you're looking for a reliable daily bar soap, a dedicated balm for dry care, or a zero-waste accessory to extend your soap's life, you'll find it here. We built our line around real skin, real home, and real life.

Our Ingredients

Grass-Fed Beef Tallow

Beef tallow has been used in skincare for centuries, long before the modern beauty industry existed. Its fatty acid profile is remarkably similar to human sebum, which means it absorbs easily without clogging pores. Our tallow comes from 100% grass-fed cattle and is rendered the traditional way to preserve its naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Raw Honey

Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into your skin. We use raw, unprocessed honey in our soaps and balms for its gentle hydrating properties. It also contributes to the rich, creamy lather our bars are known for.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil produces the best lather of any natural oil, bubbly, rich, and deeply satisfying. We use 100% coconut oil as the base for our plant-based soap line, giving customers a vegan-friendly option with the same handmade quality.

Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal acts like a magnet for dirt and oil, drawing impurities out of pores for a deeper clean. We pair it with either beef tallow or coconut oil so your skin gets a thorough cleanse without the tight, stripped feeling that most charcoal products leave behind.

Pine Tar

Pine tar has been used traditionally since the 1800s for its skin-conditioning properties. It has a distinctive smoky, woodsy scent that many people find pleasant and nostalgic. Our pine tar soaps are made the old-fashioned way.

Goat's Milk

We use fresh goat's milk in our goat's milk soaps. It's naturally rich in vitamins A and D, and creates an exceptionally creamy lather that's gentle enough for the most sensitive skin, including babies.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant with natural skin-brightening properties. It's been an Ayurvedic skincare staple for thousands of years. The beautiful golden color of our Turmeric Brightening Soap is 100% natural.

Calendula

We infuse olive oil with dried calendula flowers for our balms, creating a soothing, skin-conditioning base. Calendula has been used for centuries in traditional skincare for its gentle, calming properties.

Olive Oil

Olive oil adds extra moisture and a richer, creamier lather to our soaps and balms. We use it as a secondary oil in many of our tallow-based formulas to enhance the overall feel and performance of the bar.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea tree oil has been traditionally valued for centuries for its clarifying properties. We use pure tea tree essential oil (never synthetic fragrance) in our Charcoal & Tea Tree Soap for a refreshing, clarifying cleanse.

Lavender Essential Oil

Pure lavender essential oil, not synthetic fragrance, gives our Lavender Soap its calming, beloved scent. Lavender has been cherished for centuries for its soothing and relaxing properties.

Care & Use Tips

  • Bar Soap: Wet the bar, lather thoroughly, then rinse. Allow the bar to dry between uses to prolong life. For best results, pair with our sisal soap saver pouch to use every last piece.
  • Tallow Balm: Scoop a small amount into clean, dry hands and apply where needed. Oil-based and fuss-free.

Commitment to Transparency

By choosing Maxine's Soap Co., you're supporting a family brand rooted in tradition and integrity. Our promise: clear labels, honest ingredients, and quality you can rely on. Clean should be simple, and simple should be good.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Maxine's Soap Co. different?

We craft small-batch, handmade soaps and balms in the Midwest using honest ingredients. We avoid synthetic fragrance, dyes, and fillers. Every product has a short, readable ingredient list, no hidden surprises.

What ingredients do you use?

Our core ingredients include grass-fed beef tallow, coconut oil, honey, goat's milk, calendula, olive oil, activated charcoal, pine tar, turmeric, and pure essential oils. Every ingredient is listed clearly on each product page and on the product label itself.

Are your products small-batch made?

Yes. Every bar is hand-poured and every balm is hand-mixed in small batches in Iowa. We wrap and label everything by hand for quality control.

Do you use synthetic fragrance?

No. Our scented products use only pure essential oils (lavender, peppermint, tea tree, frankincense). Many of our products are completely fragrance-free. We never use synthetic fragrance oils.

Are any of your products vegan?

Yes. Our coconut oil soap line (Coconut Oil & Honey, Coconut Oil Charcoal, Coconut Oil Winter Peppermint) is 100% plant-based and vegan-friendly. Our tallow-based and goat's milk products contain animal-derived ingredients.

Is beef tallow good for skin?

Beef tallow has been used in skincare for centuries. Its fatty acid profile is remarkably similar to human sebum, which means it absorbs easily without feeling greasy or clogging pores. It's naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K. Many of our customers tell us it's the only thing that keeps their skin feeling soft and moisturized, especially during harsh Midwest winters.

What does your soap smell like?

Most of our soaps are unscented, they have a very mild, clean, slightly creamy scent from the natural ingredients. Our Lavender Soap smells like real lavender (because it is). Our Pine Tar Soap has a distinctive smoky, woodsy scent. Our Winter Peppermint soaps have a refreshing peppermint tingle. None of our products have that overpowering artificial fragrance smell.

How long do your bars last?

With proper care (storing on a draining soap dish between uses), a 3.5 oz bar typically lasts 3-4 weeks with daily use. Using our Sisal Soap Saver Pouch helps you use every last bit and extends the bar's life even further.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, free shipping on all orders $45 and up. That's the lowest free shipping threshold in the tallow skincare market.

Can I use your soaps on my face?

Absolutely. All of our bar soaps are gentle enough for face washing. For face use, we recommend creating lather in your hands first, then applying to your face in gentle circular motions. Our Goat's Milk & Honey and Beef Tallow & Honey soaps are customer favorites for face washing.

Are your products safe for babies and children?

Our unscented Goat's Milk & Honey Soap is gentle enough for babies and children. We recommend the unscented version (no essential oils) for little ones. As always, if your child has specific skin sensitivities, check the ingredient list and consult your pediatrician.

What's the difference between your balms?

We offer three balm options. Our Beef Tallow Balm is the most intensive, great for very dry, cracked skin like heels and hands. Our Tallow & Honey Balm is our bestseller with just 5 ingredients, perfect for everyday face and body moisturizing. Our Whipped Tallow Balm has a lighter, airier texture that absorbs quickly, ideal as a daily face and body moisturizer for those who find traditional balms too heavy.
